Our comprehensive Mollichaff range offers a choice of high quality chaffs to add bulk and fibre to your horse’s diet, as well as a complete feed aimed at laminitics and a complete forage replacer aimed at veterans.

Our specialist chaff range has five tasty options and is made from top quality oat and wheat straws, alfalfa and dried grass. It is dust-extracted, chopped and lightly dressed with a unique low sugar coating, using a special process that covers every part of the chaff evenly to make it very palatable.

This gives our chaffs an open texture, unlike heavily molassed chaffs which can be sticky and lumpy.

By stimulating the production of saliva and slowing down the passage of food throughout the gut, Mollichaff can help to promote good digestion. In particular it will satisfy a stabled horse’s psychological need to chew, requiring up to 8000 chews per kilo to eat compared to as few as 1200 for concentrates.

The Mollichaff range also includes Mollichaff Veteran, a high fibre forage mix which can be used as a total forage replacer if necessary; and Mollichaff HoofKind, which is a complete fibre feed designed for the nutritional support of horses and ponies prone to laminitis.

BARLEY-PLUS FEEDING GUIDE
Can be fed alone or mixed with other hard feeds.

Can be fed straight from the bag or as a warm mash (allow to cool slightly before feeding). A warm mash is ideal for older horses or those who have difficulty chewing.

Should be fed as a complementary feed alongside a balanced diet of high quality fibre or forage such as Mollichaff & HorseHage. Vitamins and minerals should be supplemented where necessary.

BarleyPlus can be fed at up to 50% of a horse or pony’s total daily concentrate ration.

As with all new feeds introduce gradually and increase quantities as required.

BARLEY-PLUS

Barley Plus is a highly digestible extruded barley nugget with linseed and added calcium and salt.

The extrusion (high temperature cooking and expansion) of grains increases digestibility in the small intestine. Over feeding of unprocessed grains may result in undigested grains in the hind gut. The micro flora in the hind gut will attempt to digest these grains, altering the local environment making it very acidic, commonly termed as acidosis. Acidosis can predispose horses to colic, laminitis and stereotypes such as crib biting.

Linseed is a rich source of amino acids and essential fatty acids including Omega 3 – these improve skin condition and aid a glossy coat. Oil is an excellent non-heating energy source, providing 2.25 times more energy than carbohydrates.

Salt aids palatability and provides two important electrolytes – sodium and chloride, BarleyPlus served as hydrating mash after work is an efficient way of replacing lost electrolytes.

Grains are low in calcium and high in phosphorous; adding limestone helps balance these minerals. Calcium is essential for strong bones and healthy growth.

You may feed Barley Plus up to 50% of the concentrate ration.
